Queen of Fire, Queen of Ice - beaded beads and bracelets with tutorials

Queen of Fire. Gold and rubies.... if such a queen had ever existed, I hope she would have been willing to wear such jewelry. Her sister, Queen of Ice hopefully would have chosen a set made with cold silver and sapphires. But such queens don't exist, so both sets are mine! ;D

The bracelets and matching pendants are made with wax pearls, SuperDuo beads, Toho 11/o and fire polished beads in two sizes. The beaded bead that works as a pendant is 3,7cm (1,45") long and 2,7cm (1,06") wide, the bracelet is 2,5cm (1") wide. Both patterns are accompanied with tutorials. :)

Another beaded donut and another pattern. ;)

Can't say that I was forced to make it again... but Wiosenna seemed to really like this beaded donut and requested a tutorial. Considering that making the first one, which you can see here, was a nightmare both for me and the needles, I was absolutely sure that I would never ever try to make it again, not to mention that I would never even try to convince a fellow beader to make it either.

But I must admit, that her request made me search for an easier way to make it. It wasn't that bad pattern after all, was it? I wanted to help her though, so I thought that a better way must exist! And I have managed to find it, so now the tutorial is available to all of you too. :)

Moreover, it was that easy, that I managed to make two more such beaded donuts within just one evening! ;)

I hope that Wiosenna is happy now, since she got the pattern before it has even been published. ;)

Golden Acorn - tutorial for a beaded bead

Not stopping with designing the beaded beads, not stopping with making the instructions too. ;)

Today there's another beaded bead, asymmetrical this time, of a shape slighlty resembling an acorn. It is made with 6mm, 4mm and 3mm fire polished beads and Toho seed beads size 11, all of them in brownish and yellow colours. It is 3,3 cm (1,30") long and 2,5cm (1") wide.

Also, the instruction actually allows you to make a different beaded bead too. ;)

It will never end, I guess I'll keep making beaded balls no matter what. ;)

Another one that has been created recently is made with 6mm wax pearls, 3mm fire polished beads and Preciosa seed beads, all in candy pink colours. It is probably a colour that many people just hate, but for some reason I like working with it. It needs to be a certain range of pink shades though, and that ball represents all of them.

It measures 2,5cm (1") in diameter... and of course it has become just another beaded pendant... It couldn't be anything else, after all. ;)

 

 

Now I hope that tomorrow is going to be a bright day, because I need to take a couple of pictures if I still want to update this blog. ;)

 



 

Sunny beaded donut

It's been a while since I have shown a beaded donut here... it doesn't mean though that I haven't made one. ;)

This pendant was made more than a week ago, but it probably didn't deserve to be published earlier. ;) It is made with 4mm glass pearls, SuperDuo beads and Toho beads size 11 and 15. It measures 4 cm (1,57") in diameter. Both sides of the donut look exactly the same.

Quite sunny, isn't it? ;)

 

 

 

 

A Wasp Nest again - tutorial for a beaded bead

A little thing that you have seen here already, but this time it is white and silver. It is also accompanied by a tutorial that is available on Craftsy and Etsy.

This beaded bead is actually very easy to make - with some experience you can complete it in just one hour.

Envying soutache...

That's what you get if you are admiring someone else's work and yet it's a mystery to you how they do that. ;)

So I admire all the soutache jewelry, but honestly, I wouldn't even dare to try to make it by myself. But I definitely love all those curves and such - enough to try to implement such details in beadwork. It appeared, that just a normal, flat herringbone stitch gives perfect curves if you use beads in different sizes! I just wonder why it has taken so much time for me to realize it! Well now that I have discovered it, I have hundreds of new ideas... wish a day could last longer than just 24 hours, otherwise it might be a bit hard to realize all of them. ;)

So here we have another pendant, made with a glass pearl and Toho seed beads 11/o and 15/o... the pendant measures around 5,2cm (with the bail) x 3,5cm (2,04 x 1,37").

Strange really that this pendant has nothing to do with soutache... and yet that technique was quite a great inspiration to me. Beading can really bring some surprising results, but this is what I love in it the most. :)

Who knows, maybe this pendant will become an inspiration for someone else some day? ;)

Tetrahedron beaded pendant

Wish I could show you some other beadwork than just pendants... I believe though that you still don't find it too boring if you keep visiting this blog, so I hope you wouldn't mind to see another piece of jewelry that is supposed to hang on a chain. ;)

The beaded bead/ball/whatever is made with four 10mm pearls, wrapped with Toho seed beads and connected together to form a shape that slightly resembles a tetrahedron. It measures around 3cm (1,18") in diameter.

And that's the pendant itself:

That needed to be a short entry - I have to go back to cooking! ;)

Beaded ball and some wire-wrapping

So, as I promised yesterday, here I am with two more pendants. The first one is just another beaded ball, this time made with some SuperDuo beads, measuring around 2,7cm (1,06") in diameter... A simple one, I know, but it was fun to make at least. ;)

The other pendant is just a dark red glass cabochon, wrapped with some wire. It has been a long time since I've done anything with wire-wrapping... and it will be a very long time until I make it again, you can be sure. ;) Was even too lazy to make a wire bail... oh well, maybe some day it will be changed. Not today though, of that I am certain, and not tomorrow either. ;)

The pendant measures 3,2 x 3,7 cm (1,26 x 1,45") and this is how it looks like:

Not a surprise, another beaded pendant. ;)

It's not a mace though, as my dear blond friend has suggested in her comment to the last post. ;) Heck, it's not even a dangerous weapon at all! I think I have collected a few of them already, so it was time for something more feminine. ;)

The pendant's main part is a beaded bead made with Toho Round 11/o and 15/o, as well as 10mm wax pearls. It should be forbidden though to use the silver-lined crystal beads in a beadwork that you're going to take pictures of later. ;P It was a true nightmare to take a good picture... and still I'm not fully satisfied with the result. I'm afraid though that it won't look any better, so that's how it looks like:

It is accompanied by a bali cap and some chains, which make the whole pendant pretty long - 10,5 cm (4,13") with the bail, while the main part measures around 3x2cm (1,18x0,78").

And that's how the whole piece looks like:

Now, after bothering you with a new entry every single day, I'm going to disappear for a short while. I might return with some more beadwork made in bed though. ;)

Another beaded bead - a wasp nest ;)

At least it looked like a wasp nest to me before I have added the silver caps... ;) And considering that blond has commented that I was creating dangerous things recently, it still counts as a secret weapon I suppose. After all, wasps can be pretty nasty. ;)

This beaded bead however is too small to have room for more than one wasp I think. Poor things would have been pretty crowded otherwise. ;) It is 3cm (1,18") long and 2,5cm (1") wide, the whole pendant however is 5,5cm (2,16") long, together with the bail. It is made with CzechMate Tile beads, fire polished crystals and Toho 11/o as well as 15/o, all in hematite and copper colours. It still needed to have the silver caps and bail though, as it is supposed to hang on a silver chain.

So this is my personal wasp nest that I'm not afraid to wear. ;)

Now I wonder what other dangerous thing I can make before Thursday. ;)

Citrine crystal in a beaded cap

Something different for today... it doesn't happen often though that I use more than just beads, but this dark citrine crystal has been waiting for long enough (5 years maybe? ) to become a jewelry piece. And finally it has happened, it has got its beaded cap made with Toho beads size 11 and Preciosa seed beads size 15. The cap is rather simple, but it couldn't take the attention away from the crystal itself after all.

The pendant works well wearing on a black chain or a black leather cord. It is almost 7cm (2,75") long and measures around 2,5cm (1") in diameter. Very eye-catching, trust me. ;)

 

 

 

Shuriken

"Looks like a weapon you can throw at people" - that's what I have heard after I had finished the pendant. Well, I'm not going to throw it at anyone, so you're completely safe. The only ranged weapon I can use is my Windfighter bow, after all. But the pendant definitely had to be named Shuriken. ;)

So, Shuriken was made with bicone crystals, 3mm fire polished beads, Toho seed beads size 11 &15 and spike beads. It measures around 5cm (2") in diameter /3,5cm (1,38") without the spikes.

And that's how it looks like:

 



I'll come tomorrow again, this time with something less dangerous. ;)

 

 

 



Pandora-style beaded bead

After making a few different beaded beads I still have lots of ideas in my head... wish I had some more time to carry them all out though. ;) The latest plan was to design a Pandora-style beaded bead, with a hole big enough for a beaded crochet rope. Two such beads have already been created, made mostly with wax pearls and Toho seed beads. The beads measure 2 cm (0,79") x  2,8 cm (1,10") and they look like this:

 

 

 

 

 

 

But you know what? Of course, they have to serve as pendants now for me! ;)



I almost wish to make more... despite the fact that I had to spend almost 4 hours to complete just one of them. Oh well, we'll see. Could be though that I'll try to draw a pattern how to make them. That might be finished faster. ;)

The beaded bead - free pattern

As I promised yesterday, I have prepared a quick tutorial how to make a beaded bead like in this picture:

Now you will see that despite looking complicated, it is very easy to make. :)

You will need:
54 x 4mm bicone crystals
12 x 4 mm round beads (e.g. wax pearls)
36 x 3 mm round beads (e.g. metal balls) - can be substituted with size 8 seed beads
6 x 2 mm round beads
276 x size 11 seed beads
168 x size 15 seed beads
Your favourite beading  thread
Beading needle size 12-13

The finished piece measures around 2,5 cm (1").

1. Pick up 6 x bicone crystals and cross the thread in the last bead. Work with cross weave stitch adding 2 beads on the right and and 2 beads on the left thread and crossing the thread in the 5th bead. Repeat 4 times.

2. Pick up 2 beads with the left thread and 2 beads with the right one and cross the thread in the most outer bead on the other edge (grey bead in the picture)

3. Working with one thread pass the needle through the nearest bicone (pink bead), pick up 3 x bicones and pass the needle through the two bicones added in the previous row, then through the three beads added in this step and the next two bicones from the previous row.

4. Pick up 2 x bicones, pass the needle through the nearest bicone added in this row, then again through the two bicones your thread was coming out, and the first bicone added in this step.

5. Continue with adding beads as shown in the picture (right angle weave stitch). In the last step pass the needle through the nearest bicone added in the beginning of this row (blue bead), pick up 1 x bicone and join both sides together.

6. Repeat steps 3-5 on the other side of the first row. 

7. To embellish the circles of bicones from the middle row with right angle weave stitch make sure your thread is coming out from one of the bicones in this row.

8. Pick up 1 x 3mm bead, 1 x size 11 seed bead, 1 x 3mm bead and pass the needle again through the same bicone your thread was coming out. Pass the needle through the next bicone in the circle.

9.  Pick up 1 x 3mm bead, 1 x size 11 seed bead and pass the needle through the nearest 3mm bead added in the previous step and the same bicone your thread was coming out. Pass the needle through the next bicone in the circle. Repeat this step 3 more times.

10. Pass the needle through the nearest 3mm bead added in step 8.

11. Pick up 1 x size 11 seed bead and pass the needle through the nearest 3mm bead added in the previous step and the same bicone your thread was coming out.

12. Pass the needle through all seed beads in the circle at least 2 times. Keep the tension tight.

13. Pick up 1 x 2mm round bead and pass the needle through one of the seed beads on the opposite side. You can pass the needle again through the seed beads and the 2mm bead to secure this bead even more.

14. Repeat steps 8-13 for the remaining 5 circles of bicones in the middle row. 

15. Pass the needle through the nearest 3mm round bead.

16. Add size 11 seed beads between the 3mm beads and pass the needle through the beads as shown in the picture:

17. To embellish the circles of bicones from the outer rows with right angle weave stitch make sure your thread is coming out from one of the bicones in this row.

18. Pick up 4 x size 11 seed beads and pass the needle again through the same bicone your thread was coming out. Pass the needle through the next bicone in the circle.

19. Pick up 3 x size 11 seed beads and pass the needle through the nearest seed bead added in the previous step and again through the same bicone your thread was coming out. Pass the needle through the next bicone in the circle. Repeat 2 more times.

20. Pass the needle through the nearest seed bead added in step 18 and pick up 2 x size 11 seed beads.

21. Pass the needle through the nearest seed bead added in step 19, then again through the same bicone your thread was coming out.

22. Pass the needle at least 2 times through 10 seed beads in the middle and tighten the thread to form a circle.

23. Pick up 1 x 4mm round bead and pass the needle through one of the seed beads on the opposite side. Push the bead gently inside the circle of seed beads and pass the needle again through them to secure the last added bead.

24. Repeat steps 18-23 for the remaining 11 circles of bicones in both outer rows.

25. Embellish the outer rows adding 4 x size 15 seed beads between the circles as shown in the picture:

26. Add 5 x size 15 seed beads between every two size 11 seed beads on the most outer edges, and between every four seed beads on the inner edges as shown in the picture:

27. Embellish the edge of the hole of your beaded bead, working with right angle weave stitch in the same way you were doing it in steps 18-23, only you have to start with adding 5 x size 11 seed beads, and then continue with adding 4 x size 11 seed beads and 3 x size 11 seed beads in the last step. Pass the needle through 18 seed beads at least two times and tighten the thread to form a circle. Repeat it on the other side of your beadwork. 

28. End the threads, make and secure the knot and enjoy your new beaded bead.

HINT: You can use the finished piece as a beaded core bead, but you can also use it as a pendant.
Take 2 x 8mm round beads (e.g. wax pearls) and a long metal head pin and string 1 x 8mm bead,
your beaded bead and 1 x 8mm bead. Make a loop, attach a bail and your pendant will be ready.
You can add some decorative caps too - the possibilities are limited only to your imagination. :)
