Irises - beaded crochet necklace with a free pattern :)

It won't be a long post, because I have some work to do. But I wanted to show you the beaded crochet necklace I have finished recently. :)

It's made mostly with Toho seed beads and some Preciosa, since I couldn't find all the needed colours from the Toho manufacturer... The necklace is 40 cm (15,75") long and for once stringing the beads wasn't a nightmare. In fact it was simple, fast and easy. :)

The pattern is available for free here.

And this is how the necklace looks like:

Now, before I go, I'd like to say thank you for being with me. I love you all! :)))
See you next time! :)

Flower Stud Earrings - free pattern

I have been away for a while, but now I'm back! I hope you weren't missing me too much though. ;)

As I promised in this post, I have finally prepared the tutorial for the flower stud earrings, like these below:

flower stud earrings free pattern

But first I want to say thanks to all of you, for your encouraging comments, for your e-mails, for every good word I got from you. I returned with no good news at all though, but don't worry, even though I decided to not continue the treatment - I just can't agree for the next chemotherapy, because I know that it will kill me faster than cancer - I feel great! I am an incurable optimist and I won't lose my positive attitude too soon. Can't waste the rest of my life, after all, and spend it on waiting for death. There are thousands of better things to do! ;)

Stay happy, my friends. :)

And now I'm happy to share the pattern here with you. :)

You will need:

76 x 11/o seed beads
120 x 15/o seed beads
24 x 11/o cylinder beads
2 x 6mm round beads
2 x flat or cup ear studs
beading thread
beading needle (size 12)
jewelry glue

The earrings measure around 17mm (0,67") in diameter.

1. String 1 x 11/o cylinder bead and 1 x 11/o seed bead six times, make a knot and pass through the beads, so your thread is exiting from one of the seed beads as shown in the left picture.
2. Pick up 2 x 11o seed beads, skip the cylinder bead and pass through the next 11/o seed bead in the row as shown in the middle picture. Repeat five more times. At the end pass through the first 11/o bead added in this round.
3. Pick up 1 x 11/o seed bead and pass through the three nearest 11/o seed beads as shown in the right picture. Repeat five more times. At the end pass through the first 11/o bead added in this round.

flower stud earrings free pattern

4. Pick up 5 x 15/o seed beads, skip one 11/o bead and pass through the next 11/o bead as shown in the picture (one of the beads strung in step 1).
5. Pass back through the last 15/o bead strung.
6. Pick up 4 x 15/o seed beads and pass through the next 11/o bead added in step 3 as shown in the picture.
7. Repeat steps 4-6 five more times.

8. Pass through the first 3 x 15/o beads added in the previous round.
9. Pick up 1 x 11/o cylinder bead, skip 3 x 15/o beads and pass through the next 3 x 15/o beads as shown in the picture.
10. Pick up 1 x 15/o seed bead and pass through the next 3 x 15/o beads as shown in the picture.
11. Repeat steps 9-10 five more times.

12. Pass through the beads so your thread is exiting from one of the 11/o seed beads strung in step 1.
13. Pick up 1 x 6mm round bead and pass through the 11/o bead on the opposite side as shown in the picture.
14. Pass again through the 6mm bead and the same 11/o bead you have started this round with. You can pass through these beads a few times, so the 6mm bead isn’t sitting too loosely. Don’t worry that the hole of the 6mm bead is visible. We will cover it with beads in the following steps.

15. Pick up 6 x 11/o seed beads and pass again through the 6mm bead forming a loop on one side of the 6mm bead. Repeat one more time, forming another loop on the opposite side, as shown in the left picture.

NOTE: Depending on the exact size of your seed beads (you know that some colours sometimes differ from each other with shape and size, even if they are described as the same size) you might need to add 7 x 11/o beads instead of 6. You have to determine yourself how many beads you will need.

16. Pass through one of the loops as shown in the right picture.
17. Pick up 1 x 11/o seed bead and pass through the other loop.
18. Pick up 1 x 11/o seed beads and pass through the first loop again. Pass through all the beads a few times.

19. Make and secure the knots and trim the remaining thread.
20. Take an ear stud and glue it to the back side of the beadwork.
21. Repeat steps 1-20 for the second piece and enjoy your new flower stud earrings!

CONGRATULATIONS! :)

Beaded flower - free tutorial

Finally! I admit it has taken lots of time for me to force myself to some working again. But now, as the spring is already here and the flowers are in bloom, the tutorial for a beaded flower, as I promised in this post, is ready and available to all of you. So enjoy. :)

You will need:

beaded flower free pattern

The finished piece measures 4,5cm (1,77") in diameter.

1. Cut a comfortable length of thread and string: 1 x 6mm round bead, 1 x 8/o seed bead, 1 x 6mm round bead, 1 x 8/o seed bead, 1 x 6mm round bead, 1 x 8/o seed bead and cross the thread in the last bead strung.
beaded flower free pattern
2. Pick up 1 x 6mm bead, 1 x 8/o bead, 1 x 6mm bead with the left thread, pick up 1 x 6mm bead with the right thread, pick up 1 x 8/o seed bead and cross both threads in this bead. Repeat four more times.
3. Pick up 1 x 6mm bead, 1 x 8/o bead, 1 x 6mm bead with the left thread, pick up 1 x 6mm bead with the right thread and cross both threads in the nearest 8/o seed bead strung in step 1 as shown in the picture. As you will continue with one thread only you can make a knot to keep better tension.
beaded flower free pattern

4. Make sure that your thread is exiting from the 8/o bead and is directed towards the center of your beadwork. Pick up 7 x 11/o seed beads and pass through the next 8/o bead as shown in the picture. Then pass through the 6mm bead, 8/o bead, another 6mm bead and 8/o bead. Repeat the entire step two more times and at the end pass through the two first 11/o beads as it is shown in the picture.

5. Pick up 3 x 11/o seed beads and pass through the two 11/o beads on the other side (you are changing the direction now). Then pass through the 8/o bead, 6mm bead, 8/o bead, 6mm bead, another 8/o bead and two nearest 11/o beads as shown in the picture. Repeat the entire step two more times. At the end pass through the two additional 11/o beads so your thread is exiting from the 4th (middle one) 11/o bead.

beaded flower free pattern

6. Pick up 2 x 11/o beads and pass through the middle 11/o bead added in the previous step. Repeat five more times, adding 12 x 11/o beads in total in the center of your beadwork (left picture).

7. Pick up 1 x 8mm round bead and pass through the beads on the opposite side as shown in the middle picture. Push the just added bead gently inside the circle of the 11/o beads - the 8mm  bead should be inside the 6mm beads, partially covered by the 11/o beads.

8. Pick up 1 x 15/o seed bead and pass through the next two 11/o beads as shown in the picture on the right. Repeat five more times, adding 6 x 15/o beads in total.

beaded flower free pattern

9. Pass through the beads so your thread is exiting from one of the 8/o beads and is directed towards the outer edge of your beadwork as it is shown in the picture.
10. Pick up 5 x 11/o beads and pass through the nearest 8/o bead.
11. Pick up 4 x 11/o beads and pass again through the same 8/o bead, creating a small loop above it.
12. Pass through the two nearest 11/o beads added in step 10.
13. Pick up 3 x 11/o beads and pass through the nearest 8/o bead as shown in the picture.
14. Pass through the three nearest 11/o beads added in steps 4-5.
15. Pick up 1 x 8/o seed bead, skip one 11/o bead and pass through the next three 11/o beads and the 8/o bead as shown in the picture.
16. Repeat steps 10-15 two more times.

beaded flower free pattern
17. Change the direction and repeat steps 10-15 three more times.

beaded flower free pattern

18. Your thread should be exiting from one of the 8/o beads. Pass through the nearest three 11/o beads added in the previous round as shown in the picture.
19. Pick up 1 x 11/o bead and pass through the next two 11/o beads.
20. Pick up 3 x 11/o beads and pass through the 8/o bead added in the previous round.
21. Pick up 3 x 11/o beads and pass through the two 11/o beads as shown in the picture, the 11/o bead added in step 19 and the next three 11/o beads.
22. Pick up 1 x 8/o bead and pass through the next three 11/o beads.
23. Repeat steps 19-22 five more times. At the end pass through the first 11/o bead added in this round.

24. Pick up 1 x 4mm round bead and pass through the 8/o bead on the opposite side (close to the center of your beadwork). Pass again through the just added 4mm bead, the 11/o bead your thread was exiting at the beginning of this step, and then through the next three 11/o beads and the 8/o bead as shown in the picture.
25. Pick up 3 x 11/o beads and pass again through the same 8/o bead. Then pass through the next four 11/o beads as shown in the picture.
26. Repeat steps 24-25 five more times. At the end your thread should be exiting from one of the 8/o beads added in the previous round (dark blue beads in the picture).

27. Pass through the nearest 11/o bead which is the part of the loop created in the previous round.
28. Pick up 5 x 11/o beads and pass through the two 11/o beads from the loop above 8/o bead on the outer edge of your beadwork as it is shown in the picture.
29. Pick up 1 x 11/o bead and pass through the other two 11/o beads from the loop.
30. Pick up 5 x 11/o beads and pass through the 11/o bead (closest to the hole of the 8/o bead) as shown in the picture, then pass through the 8/o bead.
31. Repeat steps 27-30 five more times.

32. End the thread, make and secure the knots and enjoy your new beaded flower.

CONGRATULATIONS! :)

This pattern works great as a pendant, a brooch, a part of a necklace or a bracelet - how you will use it, it is only up to your imagination.

And one more thing for the end... I hope you enjoyed making this beaded flower and the tutorial was helpful for you. I will be happy to receive some feedback, and if you have any suggestions what should be changed in this tutorial, feel free to contact me. If you are going to show this piece of jewelry on your blog or any other website, please give me a credit for being the author of this pattern.

Happy beading!

The beaded bead - free pattern

As I promised yesterday, I have prepared a quick tutorial how to make a beaded bead like in this picture:

beaded bead free pattern

Now you will see that despite looking complicated, it is very easy to make. :)

You will need:
54 x 4mm bicone crystals
12 x 4 mm round beads (e.g. wax pearls)
36 x 3 mm round beads (e.g. metal balls) - can be substituted with size 8 seed beads
6 x 2 mm round beads
276 x size 11 seed beads
168 x size 15 seed beads
Your favourite beading  thread
Beading needle size 12-13

The finished piece measures around 2,5 cm (1").

1. Pick up 6 x bicone crystals and cross the thread in the last bead. Work with cross weave stitch adding 2 beads on the right and and 2 beads on the left thread and crossing the thread in the 5th bead. Repeat 4 times.

2. Pick up 2 beads with the left thread and 2 beads with the right one and cross the thread in the most outer bead on the other edge (grey bead in the picture)

beaded bead free pattern

3. Working with one thread pass the needle through the nearest bicone (pink bead), pick up 3 x bicones and pass the needle through the two bicones added in the previous row, then through the three beads added in this step and the next two bicones from the previous row.

4. Pick up 2 x bicones, pass the needle through the nearest bicone added in this row, then again through the two bicones your thread was coming out, and the first bicone added in this step.

5. Continue with adding beads as shown in the picture (right angle weave stitch). In the last step pass the needle through the nearest bicone added in the beginning of this row (blue bead), pick up 1 x bicone and join both sides together.

6. Repeat steps 3-5 on the other side of the first row.

beaded bead free pattern

7. To embellish the circles of bicones from the middle row with right angle weave stitch make sure your thread is coming out from one of the bicones in this row.

8. Pick up 1 x 3mm bead, 1 x size 11 seed bead, 1 x 3mm bead and pass the needle again through the same bicone your thread was coming out. Pass the needle through the next bicone in the circle.

9.  Pick up 1 x 3mm bead, 1 x size 11 seed bead and pass the needle through the nearest 3mm bead added in the previous step and the same bicone your thread was coming out. Pass the needle through the next bicone in the circle. Repeat this step 3 more times.

10. Pass the needle through the nearest 3mm bead added in step 8.

11. Pick up 1 x size 11 seed bead and pass the needle through the nearest 3mm bead added in the previous step and the same bicone your thread was coming out.

12. Pass the needle through all seed beads in the circle at least 2 times. Keep the tension tight.

13. Pick up 1 x 2mm round bead and pass the needle through one of the seed beads on the opposite side. You can pass the needle again through the seed beads and the 2mm bead to secure this bead even more.

14. Repeat steps 8-13 for the remaining 5 circles of bicones in the middle row.

beaded bead free pattern

15. Pass the needle through the nearest 3mm round bead.

16. Add size 11 seed beads between the 3mm beads and pass the needle through the beads as shown in the picture:

beaded bead free pattern

17. To embellish the circles of bicones from the outer rows with right angle weave stitch make sure your thread is coming out from one of the bicones in this row.

18. Pick up 4 x size 11 seed beads and pass the needle again through the same bicone your thread was coming out. Pass the needle through the next bicone in the circle.

19. Pick up 3 x size 11 seed beads and pass the needle through the nearest seed bead added in the previous step and again through the same bicone your thread was coming out. Pass the needle through the next bicone in the circle. Repeat 2 more times.

20. Pass the needle through the nearest seed bead added in step 18 and pick up 2 x size 11 seed beads.

21. Pass the needle through the nearest seed bead added in step 19, then again through the same bicone your thread was coming out.

22. Pass the needle at least 2 times through 10 seed beads in the middle and tighten the thread to form a circle.

23. Pick up 1 x 4mm round bead and pass the needle through one of the seed beads on the opposite side. Push the bead gently inside the circle of seed beads and pass the needle again through them to secure the last added bead.

24. Repeat steps 18-23 for the remaining 11 circles of bicones in both outer rows.

beaded bead free pattern

25. Embellish the outer rows adding 4 x size 15 seed beads between the circles as shown in the picture:

beaded bead free pattern

26. Add 5 x size 15 seed beads between every two size 11 seed beads on the most outer edges, and between every four seed beads on the inner edges as shown in the picture:

beaded bead free pattern

27. Embellish the edge of the hole of your beaded bead, working with right angle weave stitch in the same way you were doing it in steps 18-23, only you have to start with adding 5 x size 11 seed beads, and then continue with adding 4 x size 11 seed beads and 3 x size 11 seed beads in the last step. Pass the needle through 18 seed beads at least two times and tighten the thread to form a circle. Repeat it on the other side of your beadwork.

beaded bead free pattern

28. End the threads, make and secure the knot and enjoy your new beaded bead.

HINT: You can use the finished piece as a beaded core bead, but you can also use it as a pendant.
Take 2 x 8mm round beads (e.g. wax pearls) and a long metal head pin and string 1 x 8mm bead,
your beaded bead and 1 x 8mm bead. Make a loop, attach a bail and your pendant will be ready.
You can add some decorative caps too - the possibilities are limited only to your imagination. :)

And one more thing for the end... I hope you enjoyed making this pendant and the tutorial
was helpful for you. I will be happy to receive some feedback, and if you have any suggestions
what should be changed in this tutorial, feel free to contact me. If you are going to show this
pendant on your blog or any other website, please give me a credit for being the author of this
pattern.

Happy beading!

Roses are red...

They can be pink too, they can even be a beading pattern it looks like. ;)

So here's a beaded crochet rope, a thick one, 25 beads per row, with a rose pattern, and more than 6000 beads in total... You can see a necklace here, but there's a bracelet made with this pattern too... only somehow I can't force myself to make a clasp for it. ;P Hopefully I can make it soon. ;)

beaded crochet rope

The pattern for this necklace has been created by myself. So you are free to use it if you want. If you click on the picture below, you can download a dbb file with this pattern. The image file of the pattern is available here. So, enjoy. :)

crochet rope free pattern

Last time I promised some tatting too... So there's a tatting collar, a simple one, made from Anchor Arista thread, color #316. Something for the New Year's Eve, thanks to the glitter I think. ;)

tatting collar

And the last for today, a necklace that has been made some time ago, only I haven't shown it on here until now. Inspired by one or Weraph's lariat necklaces. I haven't copied her work though as I have used some different colours of the beads (except of the silver lined teal beads, that she has used for her project too) and added a clasp. Still her work was a great inspiration to me. I only hate the picture, it should have been better really! Oh well, despite that, still I can show it to you. ;)

Lots of work, since the necklace is 120cm (47") long, and I have worn it maybe two or three times... what a waste! ;)

Anyway, see you soon again. :)

58. Pick up 2 seed beads and pass the needle through the same 6mm bead

beaded donut pendant free pattern

59. Continue with adding 2 seed beads on the inner edge and 3 seed beads on the outer edge
with a 4mm bead in between, until you have added 12 4mm beads in total. Your thread should
be coming out towards the inner side of the pendant

60. Pick up 2 x seed beads and pass the needle through the 4mm bead added in step 47

62. Your beadwork should look like this at this stage:

beaded donut pendant free pattern

63. Repeat steps 47-61 on the other side of the pendant. At the end pass the needle through the
beads so the thread will be coming out towards the outer edge

beaded donut pendant free pattern

64. Pass the needle through the nearest 6mm beads on the outer edge, no matter whether
it is left or right

beaded donut pendant free pattern

65. Pick up 1 x 4mm bead (colour 2 - or any other colour you wish) and pass the needle
through the nearest 6mm bead on the outer edge

beaded donut pendant free pattern

66. Repeat step 65 until you have added 12 4mm beads

beaded donut pendant free pattern

67. End the threads, secure the knots and enjoy your new beaded donut! :)
CONGRATULATIONS! :)

HINT: If you want to make a pendant, you can skip one 4mm bead in step 66, and add a bail,
a jump ring or anything you wish instead. I like adding seed beads and metal bails which
looks like this:

beaded donut pendant free pattern

You are free to use that idea too, only then you should pass through all the 4mm and 6mm
beads on the outer edge a few times, to make sure that the bail is well secured.

Many kinds of beads would work for the pendant, as long as their size is around 4mm, 6mm
and so on. So you can use wax pearls, fire polished beads and any others, as long as they are
more or less round. You can also adjust the number of seed beads, if you wish to use beads
size 15 for example. I wouldn’t suggest using seed beads bigger than size 10 though.
